A Message from the Head of Department

The increase in the average life expectancy of humans and our rapidly growing knowledge result in an increasing need for a variety of professions in healthcare industry. Eating healthy and well plays a crucial role in the treatment of most diseases, and thus in protecting and improving the well-being. The importance of a balanced and good diet in living a healthy life from birth cannot be disputed. Therefore, dieticians represent a profession which actively collaborates with other health professionals in protecting and improving the health, determining the suitable diet accompanying the treatment in case of illnesses, and developing the supportive care. A dietician is a professional who has the required educational background and knowledge in the fields of nutrition and dietetics, and studies the dietary habits of individuals and societies to plan and administer dietary treatment suitable for their needs. Besides working as researchers, trainers, and treatment and rehabilitation providers in inpatient care institutions, nurseries and nursing homes, maternal and infant health centres, community health centres, and private nutrition clinics, graduates of this department can also pursue an academic career in this field. Graduates of this department can also work as managers, researchers, or trainers in organizations offering catering services to their employees, and private and public agencies in the field of food and nutrition.
